YouTube has now made it possible for all partners to monetise their content through the Super Thanks Tipping feature that has now rolled out completely. In an official announcement on Tuesday, YouTube mentioned how the expansion of Super Thanks Tipping feature will now allow creators in 68 regions to earn money through their content. The feature, which initially came to the app in July last year, was limited to a randomised number of creators. However, it has now rolled out to all the eligible creators in the YouTube Partner Program and can be enabled through YouTube Studio.
In a detailed post explaining the process of monetisation through Super Thanks Tipping, YouTube mentioned that fans can now tip the creators from the four available values between $2 and $50 (around Rs. 150 and Rs. 3,800) at various points while watching the content. As an added bonus, the fans will be able to view animated GIF and receive customised colours to highlight their comments. Creators can also respond to these messages, same as the regular comments. To recall, the Super Thanks programme was launched first back in July last year.
YouTube Super Thanks Tipping is among the many ways in which the social media platform facilitates creators to make earnings from their content. A feature called Super Chat lets audience pay for their comments to be pinned in the chat during a livestream, while another feature, Super Stickers, allows creators to make money by selling cartoon character stickers to their fans.
In a default setup, all creators get income from the ad revenue generated through their videos, which is split with the platform. While it is an unsteady source of income, features like Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks Tipping makes it easier for creators to make money without a lot of dependency on advertisers.
The new Super Thanks feature can be enabled with a single click and is available on YouTube Studio for desktop, Android, and iOS.
Just like YouTube, several other platforms are introducing ways to support the creators through introduction of various features and funds. Reddit recently announced a Community Fund worth $1 million (around Rs. 6.50 crore) to support community projects, while YouTube has a $100-million (around Rs. 735 crore) fund for creators who make clips on Shorts.
Bullet Train Box Office: Brad Pitt Movie Speeds into $62.5 Million Worldwide
Bullet Train has collected a decent $62.5 million (about Rs. 497 crore) at the global box office on its opening weekend. Out of that amount, $32.4 million (about Rs. 257 crore) were pulled in from 57 overseas markets, including India, which saw an early release on August 4, thanks to Sony Pictures. Meanwhile, Jurassic World Dominion overtook Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, becoming the second biggest worldwide grosser of 2022. The top spot is still held by Top Gun: Maverick, with a whopping $1.35 billion (about Rs. 10,743 crore) globally.
According to Deadline, the Brad Pitt-starrer saw the biggest international (minus US and Canada) opening for a non-franchise film since Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which was released in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Even with dinged reviews, Bullet Train is doing fairly well with the audience, who were expecting nothing short of a fun-filled summer action flick.
On a regional basis, the overseas market for the film was led by the UK with a $3.5 million (about Rs. 27 crore) start, followed by France at $3.1 million (about Rs. 24 crore) and Mexico just short at $3 million (about Rs. 23 crore). The UAE and Taiwan releases added $1.3 million (about Rs. 10 crore) each, while Germany and Spain raised the bar slightly, with $1.5 million (about Rs. 11.9 crore) and $1.4 million (about Rs. 11.3 crore) respectively. Deadline notes that the IMAX collections are at $4.1 million (about Rs. 32 crore), and that the $32.4-million overseas record does not include some markets. Bullet Train is due to release in South Korea on August 24, Italy on August 25, and Japan on September 1 — weird considering the movie is based in Tokyo. Also, India is nowhere to be seen on the list.
The final entry into the rebooted Jurassic World trilogy, Dominion, stands second on the worldwide box office list with $960 million (about Rs. 7,636 crore), though the numbers are aided by the China release. The Tom Cruise-led fight action film, Top Gun: Maverick, however, has managed to retain the first position, while not having a China release, crossing $1.35 billion. Even Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder — which flew past the $500-million mark last month — has collected an impressive $700 million (about Rs. 5,567 crore), without China.
Additionally, Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru brought in $15.9 million (about Rs. 126 crore) over the weekend. The global total now stands at $757.9 million (about Rs. 6,028 crore). Furthermore, Warner Bros.’ DC League of Super-Pets, released on August 5 in India, is now at a worldwide total of $83.4 million (about Rs. 663 crore).
Delhi Crime Season 2 Trailer: Shefali Shah and Co. Chase After an Oily Gang of Killers
Delhi Crime season 2 trailer is here. Early on Monday without any fanfare, Netflix dropped the full-length trailer for the return of its award-winning crime drama series, that stars Shefali Shah (Darlings) as Delhi Police South District DCP Vartika Chaturvedi. In the second season — also inspired by real life, as with the first season — Chaturvedi and her team find themselves chasing an oily gang of killers who are targeting the “vulnerable senior citizens” of India’s national capital. Alongside the Delhi Crime season 2 trailer, Netflix also unveiled the official Delhi Crime season 2 poster.
“A big section of Delhi’s population lives in slums, and serves the elite who live in palaces,” Chaturvedi (Shah) says at the start of the new Delhi Crime season 2 trailer, repeating a line that was also found in the season 2 teaser trailer. “Policing a city like this one is a complex task.” The Delhi Crime season 2 trailer then reveals a multiple elder murder, with Bhupendra Singh (Rajesh Tailang) noting that this falls into the “signature style” of someone they know. Chaturvedi notes they use iron rods, hammers and axes, and they coat themselves in oil to avoid being caught — literally.
As the murders rack up and the Delhi Police deepens its investigation, a “social boycott” begins in Delhi against the likes of watchmen, cleaners and office boys, as they are being fired “out of fear.” Chaturvedi notes that the ones being arrested lack the privilege, and that they are being “deprived of their basic human rights.” Sounds like a system we know. In another repeat of a line from the Delhi Crime season 2 teaser trailer, Chaturvedi wonders what they are doing wrong, only for Singh to remind her that they do not have the luxury to think of such matters.
The rest of the Delhi Crime season 2 trailer is made up of action snippets, with the newly-promoted Neeti Singh (Rasika Dugal) noting that “anger can’t always be controlled,” and Chaturvedi’s boss CP Kumar Vijay (Adil Hussain) warning of the “s–tstorm raining on his head if this isn’t controlled right now.” In addition to Shah, Tailang, Dugal and Hussain, Delhi Crime season 2 also stars Anurag Arora, Yashaswini Dayama, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Gopal Dutt, Denzil Smith, Tillotama Shome, Jatin Goswami, Vyom Yadav, and Ankit Sharma.
“Inspired by true events, this season investigates the moral code of the Delhi Police. DCP Vartika Chaturvedi and team have evolved from the previous season. We’ll see them weigh a lot of difficult choices… be it procedural or emotional,” Delhi Crime season 2 showrunner and director Tanuj Chopra (Punching at the Sun) said in a prepared statement. Rajesh Mapuskar (Ventilator) also directs Delhi Crime season 2 episodes.
Shah added: “I love every character I’ve played, but DCP Vartika Chaturvedi will always be super special. And I’m so proud of the role and Delhi Crime as a show. It’s my favourite. And so is she. As an actor, it’s fulfilling to portray roles like these. This season, the audience will see a human and vulnerable side of these seasoned police officers. I can proudly say this, Delhi Crime is a reflection of our passion for storytelling and the craft and we can’t wait for the audience to watch it.”
Mayank Tewari (Bard of Blood), Shubhra Swarup (The Forgotten Army), Vidit Tripathi (Gullak), and Ensia Mirza (Ghost Stories) are responsible for the Delhi Crime season 2 scripts, with Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh (Prime Video’s Unpaused) and Virat Basoya (Kya Haal, Mr. Paanchal?) contributing dialogues. Delhi Crime season 2 is a production of SK Global Entertainment, Golden Karavan, and Film Karavan.
All episodes of Delhi Crime season 2 are out August 26 on Netflix worldwide.

HBO Max, Discovery+ Will Merge Into a Single Streaming Platform starting 2023
HBO Max and Discovery+ will combine into a single brand starting the summer of 2023. In a Q2 2022 earnings call webcast, Warner Bros. Discovery detailed its expansion plans, following a merger earlier this year. The currently unnamed platform, headed by CEO David Zaslav, will first release in the US, after which it will move into other regions. “With respect to streaming, our main priority right now is launching an integrated SVOD [subscription video on demand] service,” he said. “Our streaming strategy has evolved over the past year and really reflects the importance of rather than the dependence on this segment of our global content monetization plan.”
According to the expansion plans laid out by Warner Bros. Discovery, US citizens get the first treatment in Summer 2023, as HBO Max initially launched there. Latin America will receive the mashed-up version in fall 2023, while Europe get their share in early 2024. Both regions got access to HBO Max months after the original launch, with the latter (Europe) being restricted to a handful of countries.
Currently, there is no mention of countries, but the presentation notes seven markets within the Asia-Pacific region, that will gain access to the new streaming platform in mid-2024. While Discovery+ has been around in India for good while, there’s been no word of an HBO Max launch in India. A leaked survey from the WarnerMedia-owned company suggested pricing, but it was a moot point as HBO Max remains focused on Europe and other markets for now. For now, HBO Max has inked a deal with Amazon Prime Video in India.
The Discovery+ and HBO Max mega-merger will also expand further in autumn 2023 in four new unnamed markets. For now, there is no word on pricing or the subscription system, but the company is exploring multiple tiers within them. The product is being marketed as “efficient, scalable, and resilient,” bringing the “best of both” platforms to smart devices. Modular capabilities include both on-demand and live broadcasts, with multi-tier sports content. As for the basic plans, they will range between ad-free, ad-lite, and ad-only options, the latter of which would be the cheapest alternative.
Discovery and WarnerMedia’s merger was announced back in May, with AT&T getting out of the entertainment business. While AT&T is focused on building 5G towers in the US, the WB sale ensures cash flow. Warner Bros. Discovery was predicted to spend $20 billion (about Rs. 1,46,425 crores) for content annually, which is more than Disney and Netflix’s expenses.
As part of the merger, the studio also cancelled Wonder Twins, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, as the films did not match their vision to maximise results. Reports suggest that Batgirl was in the final stages of post-production, during which it went through a private screen test to emerge as an “irredeemable” film.
